Glossary

Match, video, preparation, scene, tag, involved — what each word means in SportsFlow and how it all fits together.

SportsFlow uses a handful of words the same way everywhere. Know them and the video area makes sense right away. Video, preparation and everything around them are part of the Pro plan.

The terms

Match

A match of your own team — league, cup, friendly or training. It's on your schedule and has a roster, a clock, a result and exactly one preparation.

Observation

Someone else's match between two opponent teams that you scout. No clock, no result, never counts toward your stats. Observations feed the shooter profiles. An observation belongs to none of your own matches — you link it to one or more preparations. Details: Observation.

Opponent

An opponent team with its own opponent roster (jersey numbers, optionally names). Collects every match against that team, observations, shooter profiles and opponent plays. Created automatically from the schedule or a match. Details: Opponents.

Video

The raw footage: an uploaded or linked recording. A video belongs to exactly one of four things: one of your matches, an observation, a play — or it's Unassigned. The other way round, every match has no video or exactly one — there are no multiple camera angles. Sync (match time ↔ video time) lives on the video, so you only do it once. Details: Videos.

Preparation

The folder for the next match — exactly one per match of yours, created automatically. Inside: matchday roster, plays, video, scenes, linked observations, shooter profiles and earlier matches against the same opponent. It starts as a draft; once you share it, the team sees it. Details: Preparation.

Videos get in two ways: your match's own video automatically, opponent footage via "Add observation" — the observation's video comes along. The video of an earlier match of yours (first leg) isn't part of the preparation; that match shows up there under Earlier matches.

Scene

A clip from a video — start and end — in exactly one preparation. A scene has:

  • one or more tags
  • a comment
  • Involved: the players it's about
  • drawings (as freeze frames in the video)
  • visibility: Everyone or Coaches only

Scenes are not shared between preparations. If the same observation sits in the first-leg and return-leg preparations, each cuts its own scenes from it — the first leg's scenes stay as they were. You cut in the video studio.

Tag

The category of a scene; a scene can have several. Built in: Attack, Defence, Goalkeeper, Tempo, 7m, Other. You create your own right while cutting — with one of two scopes:

ScopeApplies toExample
For all games (global)every preparation of the team"Fast break", "Getting back", "6-0 defence"
This game only (local, default)this preparation only"Back-court shots No. 7", "Cross left"

Why two? Global tags are your fixed vocabulary — the taxonomy you work with every week. Opponent-specific stuff like "Back-court shots No. 7" only makes sense against that one opponent. If every tag were global, after ten matchdays you'd have 60 opponent tags in every picker. That's why This game only is the default when you create a tag.

Import tags pulls the local tags of an earlier match into the current preparation — matches against the same opponent come first. Typical case: in the first leg you created "Back-court shots No. 7" and "Cross left"; before the return leg you import them with one click and keep cutting with the same tags.

Involved

The players you mark on a scene — your own and the opponent's.

  • Own players find the scene at the very top of the preparation under "Your scenes".
  • Opponent players: the scene shows up in their shooter profile under "Scenes of No. 7".

Shooter profile

The profile of an opponent shooter: shot chart, rates, patterns — from observations and imported match reports. Plus the scenes they're involved in. Details: Opponents.

Play

A sequence from your playbook, drawn on the tactics board. In the preparation you pick which plays matter for this match. Details: Plays.

Sharing

Share makes the preparation visible to the whole team — before that it's a draft only the coaching staff sees. Scenes set to Coaches only stay with the staff even after sharing. Details: Preparation.

Pairing

The connection between your match and your opponent's match when they use SportsFlow too. Each side tracks its own attack; your shots and 7m throws show up with the opponent as read-only opponent shots (shot position, goal corner, jersey number). Names only if you switch on Send player names. Details: Pair a match.

Live score

The current score of a running match outside of tracking: on iPhone as a Live Activity on the lock screen, on Android as an ongoing notification. Details: Notifications.

Devices

Video runs on every device — but not everything makes sense everywhere. The iPad does everything the web does; the phone is deliberately light.

On the iPad you do everything by touch: swipe the timeline, pinch to zoom, big start and end buttons. A hardware keyboard is optional. For video sessions, the iPad sends the picture to a projector or TV via AirPlay or HDMI.
